Father Gareth resigns
It was announced today by the Board of Management of St. Bede's Hall, Oxford that Fr. Gareth Jones has stepped down as Chairman, Board Member and Director of St. Bede's Hall on account of his new pastoral responsibilities at the University of Cardiff. He asked that his decision to step down be accepted. Fr. Jones thanked the Board of Management and expressed his gratitude to them. The Board of Management thanked Fr. Jones for his work as Chairman and wished him well as he assumes his new pastoral responsibilities.
St Bede's Hall is pleased to announce that Revd. Thomas G. Weinandy, O.F.M. Cap., Ph.D., has agreed to become the Chairman of the Board of Management of St Bede's under its new name of the Board of Directors. Fr Tom, as he is universally known, has had a distinguished academic and clerical career, including 13 years at Greyfriars Hall, University of Oxford, the last 10 of these as its Warden. During his years in Oxford he was a member of the Faculty of Theology for twelve years, served as its Chairman for three years and was a member of the Board of the Faculty of Theology, and supervised to a successful conclusion more than ten doctrinal students, several of whom now teach in universities. In 2004 he left Oxford to become Executive Director of the Secretariat of Doctrine in the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops based in Washington, DC. Fr Tom has been a member of the Board of Management of St Bede's since it was founded.
Fr Tom earned a B.A. in Philosophy at St. Fidelis College; an M.A. in Systematic Theology Washington Theological Union; and a Ph. D. in Historical Theology, King's College, University of London. He is an M.A. of the University of Oxford. The author and editor of more than 80 publications, his writings are widely admired and are a staple of academic and practical theology, his influence being felt alike in Catholic and non-Catholic circles. His larger role in St Bede's Hall is welcomed by former students and colleagues, the Oxford academic community and his many friends in England.
